MLB Playoffs 2023

The Atlanta Braves are bookmakers’ favorites to win the World Series. Half the MLB season is over, and the Braves have the best record in baseball.

The 2023 MLB campaign is well underway, and teams are fiercely competing for playoff berths. After 84 games, the Atlanta Braves boast an impressive 57-27 record. However, the Tampa Bay Rays have also secured 57 victories but suffered 30 losses at this point in the season.

All-Star Break and Braves' Dominance

MLB will temporarily halt for the 2023 All-Star Game on July 11, allowing players to showcase their skills on the field. Shortly after the event, the regular season will resume. With the Atlanta Braves currently leading the league with the best record, everyone is pondering whether anyone can halt their march to victory.

Bookmakers Favoring the Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves have garnered considerable support from bookmakers to win the World Series, and for good reason. Despite the New York Mets being anticipated as the top team after an ambitious offseason spending spree, they have struggled immensely and currently find themselves 19 games behind the Braves.

Atlanta has quietly and efficiently gone about their business, establishing themselves as an unstoppable force. The Braves’ front office has meticulously built one of the most talented rosters in MLB over the past few seasons. Notably, they clinched the 2021 World Series by defeating the Houston Astros and have made the playoffs in each of the last five seasons, reaching the National League Championship Series twice.

Braves' Stellar Performances

This season, the Braves’ lineup has been red-hot. Players like Sean Murphy and Matt Olson have consistently delivered impressive performances. Additionally, the team boasts rising stars in Michael Harris II and Spencer Strider. Atlanta is currently packed with talent, reminiscent of their successful years.

MLB Playoff Schedule

The playoff format for the 2023 MLB season features an increased number of Wild Card teams. Each league now has six playoff spots.

The two best division winners from each league will receive a bye in the Wild Card Round. The division winner with the weakest record among the three will compete in the Wild Card Round alongside the three Wild Card teams.

In the Wild Card Round, the third-best division winner will face the lowest-seeded Wild Card team, while the remaining two teams will play against each other. This round consists of a best-of-five series.

The League Division Series (LDS) follows next. The top-seeded team in each league will take on the winner of the matchup between the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds. The No. 2 seeded team will face the No. 3 or No. 6 seeds. The LDS is a best-of-five series.

Once the first two rounds are completed, the playoffs transition to a best-of-seven series. The days of the MLB All-Star Game determining home-field advantage in the World Series are gone. Instead, the team with the best overall record will secure home-field advantage.

Past World Series Winners

In 2022, the Houston Astros emerged victorious in the World Series, defeating the Philadelphia Phillies with a 4-2 series win. The Astros have appeared in three out of the last four World Series and have triumphed in two of the last six championships.

Currently, the Astros rank second in the AL West and trail the division-leading Texas Rangers by three games.
